Versace Names Pieter Mulier Chief Creative Officer

Italian luxury fashion house Versace has officially appointed Pieter Mulier as its new Chief Creative Officer, the brand announced today. The appointment marks a defining moment in the house’s evolution following its recent acquisition by the Prada Group and a brief creative leadership transition.

Mulier a respected Belgian designer most recently creative director at Alaïa will assume his new role on July 1, 2026, reporting directly to Versace Executive Chairman Lorenzo Bertelli. His first collection for the house is anticipated for the September fashion calendar in Milan.

“I am thrilled to embark on this journey with Pieter,” Bertelli commented in a statement. “His deep understanding of fashion, respect for heritage combined with a forward-thinking vision makes him the ideal leader to unlock Versace’s full creative potential.”

A Turning Point for Versace

The appointment comes in the wake of Dario Vitale’s departure from the role a short-lived tenure that ended in late 2025 following Versace’s return to Italian ownership under the Prada Group. In December, Vitale exited after having shown just one collection, leaving the house at a pivotal moment in its storied history.

Versace, founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace, has been undergoing strategic reshaping since the sale by Capri Holdings to Prada in 2025. The brand’s leaders see Mulier’s arrival as key to reinvigorating its creative direction while remaining true to the house’s bold identity.

From Alaïa to Milan

Mulier’s career spans both established couture and global luxury maisons. Before joining Alaïa as creative director in 2021 where he revitalised the French label with renewed design energy and commercial success he worked closely with influential designers including Raf Simons across several prominent fashion houses.

Industry insiders view Mulier’s transition to Versace as a strategic move by the Prada Group to blend Versace’s distinctive glamour with a more defined creative vision aimed at future growth.

As the fashion world looks to Versace’s next chapter under Mulier’s stewardship, designers, buyers, and fans alike will be watching closely as the house unveils its first collections under his leadership.
